Southern Mapping gains 40 years
With 40 years experience as an aerial surveyor specialising in photogrammetric assignments, Luiz Teixeira joined Southern Mapping to support the team responsible for new business development.
Luiz started his career in the surveying industry in 1970 as an apprentice with Republic Aerial Surveys. In 1982 he entered into a partnership and established the company Multi Surveys, operating from Pretoria. In 1987, Luiz became a freelance photogrammetrist, and did contract work for various companies: Fotogrammensura, Marcel Viljoen Land Surveyor, Cad Mapping, MHP Geomatics, Republic Aerial Surveys, Delta Plan, Photo Surveys and Premier Mapping. During his career he worked extensively with consultants and end users such as the Department of Water Affairs, Transvaal Provincial Administration, Department of Transport and the Chief Directorate of Surveys and Mapping.
Luiz believes that the challenge for the industry is in the area of transformation towards digital technologies, which require major investments in equipment. "Having witnessed the progress made by Southern Mapping in recent years and their investment in equipment, software and people talent, was a prime motivator for joining the team. Software solutions are forever evolving and Southern Mapping has an inventory that would enhance every surveying application."
Peter Moir, Southern Mapping Chief Executive, says: "While it is a priority to have young, talented employees with relevant academic qualifications, our company also needs to engage experience which Luiz lives up to in every respect, especially in the discipline of mapping. We will also use his know-how as back-up to the team for tenders and cost calculations".
Luiz played football for the Portuguese Association in Pretoria from the age of 20. He was a keen Wing Shooter and is today an active Deep Sea angler.
