Southern Mapping Company is an airborne surveying company which uses a laser surveying system inside the aircraft, which fires 100,000 laser pulses or measurenments per second, and an aerial survey camera is fitted as well. Southern Mapping Company produces two main outputs: A photomap, known as an orthophoto, and a contour survey, (Detailed Terrain/Elevation Model), which is a detailed picture of a terrain in terms of topographical features.
Southern Mapping Company will survey any area and recreate it accurately on your computer in 3D. From this all detailed design for roads, railways, mining, pipelines, drainage, and any other thing you can think of, can be done.
The company uses the latest aerial survey equipment, the ALTM 3100 EA (an airborne laser terrain mapper), and the Rollei AIC (aerial industrial camera) with a PhaseOne P45 CCD. Optech the supplier of the laser equipment has a dedicated ALTM customer services division for training and customer support. They pride themselves in offering 24/7 technical support for all ALTM customers.
The 3D accurate earth surface data collected during our airborne lidar survey can be used for a variety of applications.
This has become the method of choice for the following industries:
- Power Utilities
- Aerial Mapping
- Pipeline Utilities
- Urban Environments
- Highways and Railroads
- Telecommunication Companies
ALTM 3100 EA (airborne laser terrain mapper)
The ALTM laser is acknowledged as the world's best lidar laser machine. Compact and portable, it requires a simple installation onto fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters, and provides high-resolution, high-accuracy, digital elevation data.
Equipped with the latest software from Optech allows us to view your data quickly without having to take it into REALM for full processing.
It provides fast and efficient processing and visualization of data and enables us to quickly ascertain data quality.
The laser ranges to trees and to the ground beneath in a single pass. Its rapid coverage and data output sees 1,000 km2 covered in less than 12 hours, and the DEM data is available within 24 hours.
Rollei Aerial Industrial Camera
The Rollei Aerial Industrial Camera is a highly durable, reliable digital camera system that provides superior digital imagery. The system is fully integrated with the ALTM and is managed in flight through the use of ALTM NAV and the Rollei Controller software.
The high resolution AIC is designed for the demands of aerial and industrial purposes: Specially designed with minimal moving parts, rigid lens platform, and high reliability. The body is made of a stable one piece aluminium alloy body for enhanced endurance in aerial applications. The camera orientation is flexible allowing a portrait or landscape mode.
The AIC lenses are based on the series of professional middle format lenses from Rollei. The heart and soul of the lenses and also of the AIC is the Rollei electronic shutter. The electronic shutter is an iris shutter with a maximum speed of 1/1000 of a second.
The Rollei AIC camera platform is a dynamic and stable addition to the ALTM and can meet the demands of today's aerial photography.
PhaseOne P45 CCD
The world's first 39-megapixel digital camera, provides users with the sharpest image quality yet, paving way for medium and large-format photography.
Offering a capture rate of 35 frames per minute, the P45 boasts of speeds up to 20 MB/sec. Files up to 117MB (at 7216 x 5412 pixel resolution) can be captured. It also implements Phase One's 3S (Secure Storage System) system that checks the CF media before writing images onto it.
